I was playing around on the computer last night and I decided to put together a couple of HDR (high dynamic range) photographs, just to see how the process worked. Below are the results (larger versions and the original exposures below the cut tags). I tried to different methods, and I'd be really curious to hear from all of you which version you prefer. Thanks!

Do you think these pictures look fake or otherwise totally unrealistic?
Is the effect pleasant or unpleasant?
If you saw a photo like this with no preamble would you instantly assume it was heavily adjusted, or just somewhat?
What do or don't you like about these pictures?

This little guy was taking a stroll across our front walk this morning as I was on my way out. The ratio of slugs to snails we see around here is about 1,000:1 so my first reaction was "hey! where'd you steal that shell, slug?" But he really was a snail so I took some pictures of his pretty, yellow shell.

Growing up my family did lots of bike riding. We'd say, "let's go for a bike ride," go out to the garage, get our bikes out, and go. We didn't go change into bike racing clothes, plastered with logos, acting like we were in the middle of some cross-country race. We especially didn't go put on identical "I'm a giant tool" clothes. There's a word for people who do that. Actually, there's a bunch of words. Here's a couple: shit heads, assholes, idiots, pretentious jerks...

Seen yesterday on my drive home.

I'll further note that these two morons were riding in heavy, afternoon commute traffic, side by side so that no one could pass them easily. I swear, people like this make me want to share the road by grinding their asses into it.

Deusenberg Model J — the most beautiful car in history

Of all the cars that mankind has put together in the last eleven or twelve decades this one is probably my favorite. The Duesenberg Model J was manufactured by the Cord Automobile Company from 1929 through 1937. Of that range of years the first several were definitely my favorite (as you can see from the linked photo gallery). A few years back there was a company that was going to start building Duesies again, but I guess that fell through. Too bad...
